"With almost 2,000 exhibitors from 73 countries on an exhibition floor area of 220,000 m2, boot 2019 set a new record. Close to 250,000 water sports enthusiasts (boat 2018: 247,000 visitors) travelled to Düsseldorf from over 100 countries," as the trade fair organization's concluding press release stated.
Teak deck specialist Wolz Nautic from Gaukönigshofen in Germany's Franconia region was on board again of the 50th edition of this leading trade show.
Already on the first weekend the unrestrained run on the boot 2019 event was very much in evidence, with long queues forming in front of the exhibition stands. The trend continued on the following weekend after a somewhat quieter phase during the week, so that 2019 registered a new attendance record.
For Wolz Nautic, boot is a key platform for presenting itself on the domestic market, but also for establishing and maintaining contact with shipyards, end customers and business partners, says André Hofmann. Thus, the Wolz Nautic team succeeded in gaining valuable insights into the boat market and opening up one or the other new project.
New this year for the teak deck manufacturer was its participation in the "love your ocean" stand in Hall 14, which was initiated and supervised by the German Ocean Foundation. The focal topic on the stand was that of sustainability in connection with water sports, with the emphasis on the problem of plastic waste in the oceans and, in particular, the "microplastics" issue.
The program on the "love your ocean" stand was selected accordingly. Lectures by Emily Penn (activist against plastic pollution of the oceans), Pierre-Yves Cousteau (youngest son of the legendary explorer and underwater filmmaker Jacques-Yves Cousteau), Boris Herrmann (yachtsman, Team Malizia) and many other personalities from the sphere of water sports gave visitors numerous insights into the sustainability projects currently in progress.
Highly interesting from the point of view of the boatbuilding sector was the announcement by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation that the already existing "Wood Forever Pact" initiative is now being put into an even wider context, with the world premiere presentation of the "Sustainable Yachting Network" (SYN) at boot 2019. Its target groups include all companies/institutions in the field of yacht construction that in any way concern themselves with the topic of sustainability.
Wolz Nautic has been working with the Prince's Foundation since 2017 already, and will accordingly be participating in the SYN as well. The first projects are already in the planning phase and were discussed with the foundation's representative at boot 2019.
As already evident at the METS show, the subject of sustainability dominated the discussions and content at the boot show as well. Among other things, Wolz Nautic got to speak with owners' representatives and yacht fleet managers about alternative solutions and future technologies in the field of yacht deck construction and correspondingly place the company's product portfolio.
